Web Design Case Study
theatrevoice
www.theatrevoice.com
Theatrevoice was conceived by Dominic Cavendish, theatre critic for The Daily Telegraph. He had assembled a team of critics from across the British Press to record weekly discussions centring on the latest productions in the West End. He required a website that would both stream these discussions on demand, and also build a searchable archive for future reference.
As the site would be updated on a weekly basis, it would need a comprehensive content management system.
We decided at an early stage to build our own media player using Flash ActionScript, for several reasons: firstly the widespread use of the Flash Player; secondly clean and ergonomic integration of our bespoke media player; and thirdly future–proofing the audio files in a platform-independent MP3 format.
The back end was constructed using a combination of SQL Server, ASP and XML. Almost all of the written/visual content displayed within the .swf files is dynamically generated by the database.
